Dr. Richard Bowles
Growing up in North Knoxville, Dr. Richard Bowles graduated from Central High School before continuing
his education at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. After completing his undergraduate studies, he
moved to Memphis, TN, in order to attend UT’s College of Dentistry and received his D.D.S. degree in 1965.
Following his marriage to Sharon, a dental hygienist, and a year of public health dental work in Arkansas,
he returned to the University of Tennessee, Memphis campus to specialize in orthodontics. There he
completed a graduate orthodontics residency under the guidance of the highly esteemed orthodontist,
Faustin N. Weber and earned his Master of Science in Orthodontics degree.
Returning to Knoxville, Dr. Bowles began his practice in the downtown area and soon added an office in
Maryville, employing his wife and truly making it a friendly, family business. More than thirty years later, this
family atmosphere continues as he now works in partnership with his son Dr. Ryan Bowles and they
continue to treat their patients with care and compassion. Dr. Bowles is also extremely proud of his son
Matt, who lives with his wife Amy in Knoxville and is a youth minister at West Hills Presbyterian Church.

Dr. Ryan Bowles
A native Knoxvillian, Dr. Ryan Bowles attended the Sequoyah area
schools before moving and graduating from Farragut High School
in 1994. He then furthered his education, achieving a B.S. in
Predentistry from UT, Knoxville. Following this, he and his wife Glenda,
attended Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, an experience
that greatly shaped their outlook on the role of healthcare both in daily practice and to the disadvantaged at
home and abroad. Moving to Memphis, TN, he attended the University of Tennessee Health Science
Center for seven years, earning both his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and later a Master of Dental
Science degree during his three year orthodontic residency.
Grateful to be back in the “promised land” of East Tennessee, Dr. Bowles enjoys practicing with his father
and working together to ensure the best quality treatment that they can provide. He remains active in
missions work, thankful for the opportunities he has had with his education and believing that “to whom
much is given, much is required.” He also has three wonderful kids, Amber, Daniel, and Rachel who bring him much joy and pleasure.
